A critical component of the RAPS
project is the promotion of energy savings targeted for community members.
Lessons learned from other electrification projects will be taken into
account so IRP will train and disseminate information on energy savings
issues to minimize waste. The RAPS project will work together with the
Energy Savings Program (PAE) of the Ministry of Energy and Mines of Perú
to replicate succesful approaches from similar rural settings. The project
will promote innovative commercial and financial mechanisms to promote
the use of electric components like fuses, controllers, and other tools
for their domestic use.
To date, IRP has conducted household
surveys in Padre Cocha and Indiana to estimate energy consumption.
Based on these results, IRP and PAE will jointly design training programs
to minimize waste of energy.
Recently, IRP has started an agressive
information and education campaign on energy savings. IRP has designed
and distributed educational pamphlets targeted to end users so they can
maximize energy savings at the household level. The following pamphlets
